Ceemo Beta FAQ

The Ceemo Brand Quiz

What if I already have some brand elements I like?

If you already have some brand elements you like, but perhaps you don’t have a fully brand book, or maybe you aren’t sure if they’re WCAG/ADA compliant, that’s okay, we can still help at Ceemo!

Scroll down to check out our Custom Design Support FAQ for more info about how that works. But suffice it to say, Ceemo & our entire team are dedicated to support your journey as a founder. We’re here to help you, no matter how far along you are.

Why do I need to list my competitors & dream investors?

You actually don’t have to list your competitors! Those sections of the quiz aren’t fully functional yet; remember, we’re still in beta. (Apologies about that!) If you can list them, that would be super helpful.

We’re developing a unique algorithm that will trawl investment data from our partners at Crunchbase, so we can derive insights about what brand trends work to help entrepreneurs succeed in your unique industry. Our goal is to infuse those insights into every brand we generate, to help you be more competitive.

Like we said, that part of the algorithm is not functional yet. (We’re planning to release it later in 2024.) If you want to skip those questions on the Brand Quiz for now, you absolutely can. But including that information will be exceptionally helpful for us during our upcoming tests!

Once this new feature is available, of course we’ll let all of our users know so you can explore, see what new options are out there, and update your brand if you’d like to at that point. We’ll keep you updated!

I'm struggling to choose my keywords. Can you tell me more?

Choosing keywords can be an overwhelming process for some founders! That’s okay, we can help walk you through it.

Choosing keywords is about how you want to be perceived by your customers. As founders it’s easy to get wrapped up in how we see our own brands. But the goal of a good brand isn’t to preach to the choir, it’s to convert others to what we already see & love.

First & foremost, try to take yourself out of the equation as much as possible. Instead, think about your customer’s point of view. Imagine they’re seeing your logo for the very first time. What do you want them to think about you? How do you want them to feel? That’s what your brand needs to convey!

With that in mind, try not to overthink it. Go with your gut!

To start with, ask yourself: if someone can only learn & remember one thing about my company, what do I want that to be? Let that guide your first keyword selection.

For your second & third keywords, think about how they add color, flavor, and nuance to that first keyword.

Remember, you can always narrow down the list by selecting the category tabs at the top! Narrow it down by Thoughts, Feelings and Relationships.

Thoughts are about concrete things people think about you. For instance, are you innovative? Advanced?

Feelings are more about the emotions evoked by your brand. Do you inspire happiness? Positivity?

Relationships are all about how you interact with your customers. Does that relationship need to feel friendly? Parental?

We hope this helps to narrow it down for you! Bottom line, go with your gut and don’t be afraid to experiment. Choose three, go to the Results page, and see what pops up. But also feel free to hit the Back button, rearrange your keywords, or choose new ones, then see how that influences the results. Play! Have fun! Don’t stress.

Do I have to accept the first brand recommendation?

Of course not! It’s just a suggestion. Please don’t feel like you have to go with the top recommendation. After all, you’ll be working with this brand for quite a while! It’s important that you love it.

Please feel free to scroll through, play around, and customize each individual element! That’s why the tabs at the top are there, to let you scroll through each section of your brand individually.

Click on Color to scroll through a bunch of different color schemes.

Click on Logo & Type to explore what font options are recommended, and to play with the format of your wordmark logo. You can put it in all caps, you can split it across several lines if your company name has multiple words.

Click on Marketing Kit to explore various design motifs to find one that feels like it fits with your brand style.

Please play, have fun, and create something you love! If the recommendation engine gets 80-90% of the way there, always feel free to contact us for custom design support too. Bottom line, we’re here to support you & your dream business!

Why is the generated logo just text?

The short answer is, because we’re still in the beta version of our MVP! We’re still working on developing our logo icon generator. Apologies! We all gotta start somewhere.

The longer answer is, we’re taking our time to develop the logo icon generator because we want to ensure we’re protecting you as a founder. There are all sorts of risks & liabilities at play with AI logo generators, risks that most founders aren’t even aware of.

To explain that, let’s take a step back and talk about what a logo is. Logos can have up to two separate elements: one is called a “wordmark“, the other is an “icon” (or sometimes referred to as a “mark“).

Some companies only have wordmark logos. Think of L’Oreal, Kellogg’s, Vimeo, Volvo, FedEx, Calvin Klein, The New York Times; the list goes on. Plenty of legendary brands exist with only a typographic wordmark logo. While others, of course, have legendary graphic designs that sit alongside the wordmark to add extra memorable flare. That design is the logo icon.

Right now Ceemo is still in beta and only generates wordmark logos automatically. The reason for that is two-fold. First, we’re still only on version 1 and are a small startup ourselves. But most importantly, we want to make sure that every logo we generate is fully protectable under trademark, for your sake!

Not many people know this, but as of this writing, courts here in the US have not established firm rules around what can and cannot be legally protected when it’s generated by AI. That includes logos! If you’re using an AI-generated logo, you likely can’t protect your brand from being infringed upon or used by someone else. (If you’re in the EU, the EU has already legislated this and the answer is quite firmly, “No.”)

At Ceemo, we care deeply about founders. We’ve built our entire platform to help protect founders from liabilities most aren’t even aware of. Being able to protect your brand is absolutely vital!

That’s the main reason we haven’t implemented AI image generation to create logo icons for our users yet. (Well, that, and the overall quality when it comes to logos is still quite abysmal, in our humble opinion.)

One of our big goals for 2024 is to release our own proprietary Ceemo Logo Generator, which will incorporate a wide variety of logo design features: custom glyph designs for wordmarks, beautiful logo icons, the works. We’re taking an entirely novel approach to image generation, all to ensure that you can legally protect your brand.

We apologize that our logo generator isn’t entirely complate yet, but we hope you’ll understand why we’re sticking with only generating wordmarks for now. To help bridge the gap, our team of experts are happy to offer custom design support. At Ceemo, we want to ensure you’ll have a deeply meaningful brand that you can be proud of & fully protect throughout the life of your amazing company.

Custom Design Support

What if I want a custom icon to go with my wordmark logo?

Ceemo Beta participants will have access to an array of exclusive one-on-one optional upgrades, including hands-on design services from the same team of experts who have created Ceemo!

How does Ceemo Custom Design Support work?

We’re so glad you asked! The very first step is to set up a free 15-Minute Custom Design Support Intro Meeting

Once you’re a Ceemo subscriber, you’ll have access to a calendly link where you can schedule your free intro meeting. In that meeting, you’ll meet with our expert designers (more than likely, you’ll meet our founder, Heather! But you might meet one of our other expert designers, like Sarah or Kaely.) They’ll learn more about you, your company, your Ceemo brand quiz results, and what sorts of help you’re looking for. We’ll narrow that down to a specific goal (or goals) to accomplish together.

We’ll then discuss a plan to accomplish your goal(s), and provide an estimate for how much that will cost. We bill all custom design support based on a discounted standard hourly rate. If that proposal is amenable to you, then we’ll get started!

If you have any questions at all or want to get a rough estimate, please always feel free to contact us! We’re always happy to work with you, answer questions, and come up with affordable solutions to get you what you need.

What kinds of design support do you offer?

At Ceemo, our experts are here to help support you & your business! If you need marketing creative work done, chances are we can either help or get you connected with someone who can.

Here are most common types of custom design support we offer to our subscribers:

Pitch Decks & Marketing Assets

Why does Ceemo generate assets in Google Slides?

For the beta MVP of our platform, we wanted to generate assets in a platform that was completely free to users, offered great design functionality, and could export to as wide a variety of other software formats as possible. That left only one option: Google Workspace!

We really appreciate that Google Slides is highly flexible, free to use, great for teams working together, and can export to Microsoft PowerPoint, PDF, PNG, and even SVGs. Once your assets are in PowerPoint format, it can then be imported to just about any other leading software – Canva, Keynote, etc.

Google Slides is even flexible enough that it can be used to create so much more than just slide decks! With Google Slides, you can edit the “paper” dimensions to suit just about any possible design need. That’s how we’re able to generate things like letterhead, one-pagers, business cards, and even social media posts for Instagram or Facebook.

Please keep in mind though, this is just the start for Ceemo! Google is just the beginning. We’re already developing a tool to allow users to bypass Google entirely and download their Ceemo pitch decks in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Beyond that, we’d absolutely love to be able to generate assets directly in Canva as well! (In fact, if you happen to know anyone at Canva, we’d greatly appreciate an introduction! Please contact us if you’d be willing to help.) But we’re still in the earliest phase of our journey, so we hope you’ll be patient with us as we continue to add additional features and functionality.

Are you planning to add any other marketing asset types?
Absolutely! Right now Ceemo automatically generates multiple types of marketing assets in your unique brand, including:

  • Pitch Decks
  • One-Pagers
  • Letterhead
  • Business Cards
  • Social Media Templates

We have extensive plans to continue developing additional types of marketing assets, as well as variations on existing asset types. For instance, with Pitch Decks alone, we’re planning to add:

  • Email-style Pitch Decks
  • Investment stage-specific decks
  • Sales decks
  • Non-Profit sponsorship decks
  • Business plans
  • & more!
  • When it comes to social media assets, we’re excited to generate things like profile banner images, branded avatars, and more.

One thing our founder is most excited about is eventually generating full UI/UX design systems in Adobe Figma, to help founders develop designs for their very first prototypes of websites, software, or mobile apps. (If you happen to know anyone at Figma and would be willing to make an introduction, we’d be immensely grateful!) This would be especially valuable, as everything Ceemo generates is fully WCAG & ADA compliant. Full compliant design is often a really expensive proposition for early stage startups, yet it can present a huge legal liability down the road!

Suffice it to say, we have big plans for the types of assets & overall value Ceemo will continue to provide for our founders! Stay tuned, big things are coming your way.

Is it true your founder has helped others raise $170 million?

Yes indeed! Throughout her ten year career, our founder, Heather Lawver, has helped other entrepreneurs raise over $170 million in venture capital. Over $20 million of that was during Ceemo’s initial test pilot phase, which went to 100% underrepresented founders. Those figures encompass any brand/company strategic narrative & pitch decks that she specifically worked on with those founders.

Beyond that, she’s also taught countless classes for various accelerators, universities, VC firms, and startup ecosystem events. There’s no telling the broader impact her overall methods have had, but we can at least confidently say that the figure is at least $170 million!

Why do I have to give you access to my Google account to generate assets?

Because we use Google Slides in order to generate marketing assets, we need to request permission to access your Google account in order to deliver your assets to you.

We fully recognize & appreciate that the Google Permissions request is a big ask. Unfortunately, the way Google’s APIs are structured, we had no choice but to utilize their most expansive & restricted API access in order to accomplish our task. Literally all we’re doing is copying a template from our service account and pasting it into your account. But in order to do that, the only option Google has for us is to request access to your entire Google Drive.

Because we recognize what a huge leap of faith that is, we’ve built our MVP to immediately revoke permissions the moment that copy/paste process is complete. We do not retain your Google account information in any way!

In order to utilize this restricted Google API access, we had to go through a lengthy & rigorous approval process with Google. It took 4 months and required a full code review by Google, as well as indepedent third party security testing known as CASA Tier 2. Google verified & then independently tested that our code was only doing precisely what we said it would: creating an asset in our Google service account, copying it, then pasting it into your account, before immediately disconnecting access and deleting your account information.

We passed that security review with flying colors and were granted permission by Google to use that restricted API scope. We have to submit to additional reviews periodically in order to maintain it.

Everyone at Ceemo knows this is not ideal! We really wish Google had a less extreme API option for simply depositing a file into your account. But until they decide to build that, we have to work with what we’ve got.

Because we recognize that sheer amount of trust we’re asking you to place in us, we are developing an option to bypass Google entirely and instead download all your Ceemo assets in Microsoft PowerPoint. Please keep an eye on our News blog for updates about when that’s coming out!

If you’d like to learn more about how we utilize Google, please feel free to check out this page for more info.

    Subscriptions

    What is your refund policy?

If you have not yet completed your brand quiz, you’re welcome to contact us for a full refund within 30 days. If you have already completed the brand quiz and generated your brand assets, we do not offer a refund at that point. But please feel free to reach out to us as we are happy to review that on a case by case basis. We do reserve the right to amend that policy going forward.

What happens if there's a service outage?

As a beta participant, we’ll ask for your patience & understanding, as we too are a startup! There are bound to be occasional glitches during the beta development process. Of course we will always do our best to offer only the best quality service! But the occasional risk of glitches is part of why we’re offering such a significant discount for your participation in the beta. We hope that’ll offset any temporary frustration or issues that may arise from the software still being in beta.

What if I run into a technical problem?

You’re always welcome to contact Support, or post a message in the Support channel on our Ceemo Galaxy Discord server!

Are you going to sell my data or startup details?

Generally speaking, no! In fact, once your Ceemo pitch deck has been generated and placed in your Google Drive, we no longer have any access to it. So when you start filling in your pitch content, for instance, no one at Ceemo is looking over your shoulder or downloading any details about your startup.
The only time we will see any details about your startup is if you agree to participate in one of our live events, like a live community pitch deck facelift session, or if you share details in our community discord server. Anything you share there, you should share with the understanding that it may become public. But Ceemo certainly won’t be selling any of that information.
What data will we collect? Our main goal in building Ceemo is to demolish the statistic that less than 2% of all venture capital reaches underrepresented founders. To that end, we will be tracking some impact data to see if we’re successfully increasing the odds of you securing funding or building a sucessful startup. Occasionaly we’ll ask our beta participants if they’ve received any kind of investment, a loan, if you seen an increase in sales; that sort of thing. But your participation in that is always voluntary! That said, if any of your investment information is public record, e.g. on Crunchbase, we’ll likely have access to that at some point.
We’ll also be tracking basic website stuff, like usage rates, how many marketing materials are generated, which templates and design motifs are most popular, which recommendations are chosen most often, etc. But all of that is collected for the purposes of improving the site & the services we provide, all in furtherance of our underlying mission.
What data will we share/sell? Right now we do have plans to potentially share impact data with our partners at Crunchbase, because they’re also heavily invested in our mission to advance equality in venture capital. We’re also really excited about the opportunity to see what other ways data might be able to drive insights in branding, marketing, color theory, and overall streamlining/accelerating of the startup & venture capital process. We want to make startup life easier & more efficient for founders, so we’re sure as Ceemo continues to grow, the data will offer exciting possibilities to accomplish that goal. We don’t know yet what all those possibilities are, so we do reserve the right to explore them as they come up. But rest assured, we’ll always be honest, transparent, and open about that through our Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, and most importantly, in all our dealings directly with you! We sincerely hope we’ll earn your trust as a dedicated force for good in the startup ecosystem.
As always, you’re welcome to explore our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. But we hope this less legalese explanation will set your mind at ease!

Do you offer bulk discounts for accelerators or universities to participate in the beta?

Yes, we do! Please reach out to our founder at heather@ceemo.ai to discuss your program’s unique size and needs.

    Ceemo General FAQ

How is Ceemo related to Perfectly Pitched Inc?

Ceemo.ai is developed by Perfectly Pitched Inc, our parent company! They launched in 2021 as a consultancy, supporting early stage entrepreneurs with their branding, marketing, and pitch decks. After helping minority-led startups raise over $10 million in their first year, our founder realized she was doing something uniquely effective at overcoming the biases that keep less than 2% of venture capital from reaching underrepresented founders. Naturally she couldn’t help but think how to make that impact venture scalable! Ceemo is the result of that effort.

What all can the Ceemo platform do today?

As of April 2024, the Ceemo platform offers a 5-step quiz where you start with step 1, telling us your company name, a few details about your industry & where you are in the startup lifecycle.

In step 2, you can search for your top 3 Competitors via our API integration with Crunchbase! Right now it only shows you the logos of your top three competitors. We’re hard at work completing an exciting algorithm that’ll decipher the branding trends among your top competitors, and within recent investments in your industry as a whole. We were really hoping to have this available on day one, but we want to make sure it’s truly ready for primetime before releasing it.

In step 3, we do the same thing, but with your Dream Investors! In the search fields, you can find various investors within Crunchbase’s database. Once our algorithms are live, we’ll trawl their portfolios to look for branding trends there too, and take all that data to infuse your brand with added meaning & strategy.

In step 4, you get to tell us how you want to be perceived by your customers! Choose three keywords, putting them in order from most important to least important. These perceptions will then drive the creation of your brand!

Finally, in step 5, you’ll see what our smart algorithms have recommended for your Typographic Logo, Color Scheme, open-source Font Suite, and Marketing Kit! You can get granular and change up any of these individual elements, refining them to suit your tastes while still fitting your unique strategies. You can see the next recommendations in each of your brand elements, selecting your color, fonts, and marketing kits independently until you create something uniquely you!

Your marketing kit is a unique theme of design motifs that decorate your pitch deck, and soon, your other marketing materials as well!

Once you’ve created a brand you love, Ceemo will save it to your profile and open up access to both you Ceemo Brand Book and your own Asset Library.

In your Ceemo Brand Book, you’ll find the following:

    • Download your wordmark logo in 7 different brand colors as both SVGs & transparent PNGs.
    • Download or embed your open-source Font Suite.
    • View your color scheme & copy all color hex codes.
    • Refer back to your core identity keywords to guide your marketing messaging.
    • Access your Accessibility Guide to maintain the WCAG/ADA compliance that’s baked into your Ceemo brand.

In addition to your Brand Book, you can also access your Asset Library, where you can generate a wealth of marketing assets, all automatically in your fonts & colors! Depending on your subscription tier, you can create the following:

    • A 40+ slide Pitch Deck
    • One-Pagers with 8 different styles for investment or sales
    • Letterhead
    • Business Card
    • Social Media image post templates with 50+ designs

All of these assets are generated in your fonts, colors, and unique design motifs all in Google Slides. They can then be exported to Microsoft PowerPoint, PDF, PNG, or SVG formats. That way you can edit them in just about any major software platform you prefer.

Best of all, every asset comes with a full mini-textbook guide to how to craft compelling narratives and conquer marketing strategy, written by our founder, Heather Lawver, who’s helped entrepreneurs raise over $170 million in venture capital.

Finally, the other great thing about Ceemo is that we’ve created your brand and your assets to be fully WCAG & ADA compliant. That means all of your colors will pass various contrast requirements, ensuring they’re visible for the vast majority of people, despite vision impairments like color blindness. This is a great way to ensure your message is reaching the widest possible audience and helping you to avoid significant liabilities that many founders — and designers! — aren’t even aware of.

That’s what Ceemo can do for you today! Keep reading to see what’s coming soon.

    What features are coming soon?

The first thing coming up – before December 2024, according to our current development schedule – is a full Ceemo Brand Book! That’s the main hub for your brand, where you can:

    • Download your Logo in 5 different brand colors
    • Copy all of your Color Scheme’s hex codes
    • Download your Headline & Bulk Text Fonts from our friends at Google Fonts
    • Review your core Brand Keywords
    • Review your Accessibility Guide, about how to use your fonts & colors to maintain WCAG & ADA accessibility no matter where or how you use your brand!

We really wanted to have this available at launch, but again, we also wanted to make sure it was fully featured and ready for you to get maximum value out of. We’re hard at work to ensure we can get it to you ASAP!

After that, our next development goals are:

    • Fully integrating Crunchbase data analysis into the Brand Quiz
    • Adding additional automatically branded marketing materials, like one-pagers, letterhead, business cards, social media templates, and more!

We don’t have estimates yet of when we hope to launch those features, but stay tuned! We’ll do our best to keep our community updated all along the way.

What do you have planned for the platform going forward?

We have huge plans for Ceemo going forward! We want to explore additional marketing materials and applications for our color scheme application system. Here are a few other marketing materials on our horizon:

    • Menus
    • Website & App Design Systems for Figma prototyping
    • Investment stage-specific Pitch Decks tailored to Pre-Seed, Seed, Series A, and beyond
    • Emailable “Leave Behind” Pitch Decks
    • Non-Profit Sponsorship Decks
    • Sales Decks
    • Brochures
    • Envelopes
    • Email Signatures
    • Partnerships with website creators, for instant site branding
    • And so much more!

We’re also raising our pre-seed round right now in order to fuel the development of our own proprietary AI pitch narrative feature! If you’re interested in learning more about joining our pre-seed round, click here.

    What's the mission behind Ceemo?

Here at Ceemo, we’re dedicated to making early stage startup marketing easier & more cost-effective than ever. Why? Because we believe that’s one of the very first barriers that sets underrepresented founders behind.

For founders who get a Friends & Family round, they spend an average of $30,000-$50,000 on branding, marketing materials, and pitch decks. If you don’t get that Friends & Family round, though, you’re more likely to struggle trying to cobble those things together yourself. That can take up to four times as long, making you seem slower, less market ready, and less competitive by comparison. That starts you out ten steps behind on day one! It’s no wonder then that less than 2% of venture capital reaches women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and disabled founders.

And every bit of that is just plain wrong.

We can’t solve the prejudices and biases that contribute to that atrocious disparity in funding. But we can use technology thoughtfully to overcome the structural inequality in access to foundational marketing materials.

That’s why we created Ceemo. We’re not looking to replace human creativity. We just to make it easier for you to get from zero to one! We want you to have an easier time launching your startup and securing funding, so that you can afford to hire marketing professionals faster.

Ceemo will be there with you every step of the way, as your friendly automated CMO. Our goal is to ensure that we grow right alongside your startup, giving you everything you need on day 1, day 10, day 100, and beyond. As your startup grows, your marketing needs will change and evolve. Ceemo will be right there, offering you new templates, new guidance, and new possibilities, tailored to each stage of your startup. We’re your partner in all things startup storytelling.

How can I help with your underlying mission?

Thanks for asking! First & foremost, please spread the word! Tell everyone you know who’s either a startup founder or looking to launch their own startup about the Ceemo beta.

Second, if you work with or know of any early stage startup accelerators or university-based entrepreneurship programs, please send them our way too! We can tailor Ceemo Beta packages to support their programming needs.

Third, we’re raising our own pre-seed round right now! If you know any Angel, Pre-Seed, or Seed investors who are passionate about leveling the venture capital playing field, B2B SaaS, and the power of AI/ML, please send them to our Investor page!

Fourth, we’d love any and all introductions you could offer to connect us with the following companies:

    • Canva’s API Beta Program
    • Google Workspace
    • Adobe
    • Squarespace or Wix
    • Moo.com or VistaPrint.com

Finally, if you’re an investor, please do everything you can to fight for equality in venture capital! Invest in women, BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and disabled founders. We routinely produce better results, despite getting by on less than anyone else in the industry. Every financial advisor talks about the importance diversifying your portfolio. Diversify yours by diversifying the founders you invest in. We’ll all be better off if you do, and I bet you’ll make more money too.

    What's your connection with Techstars?

We’re a proud Techstars portfolio company, as part of the 2023 Techstars Atlanta powered by J.P. Morgan cohort led by Melissa Pegus.

We’re also a proud partner of multiple Techstars cohorts, helping to prepare their founders to shine on Demo Day & increase their odds of securing funding post-program!

What's your connection with the Halcyon Incubator?

Our founder was a fellow in the very first cohort of Washington DC’s Halcyon Incubator way back in 2014! Perfectly Pitched, our parent company, was launched when Halcyon offered to hire Heather in 2021 to support their Opportunity Intensive program with their branding & pitch decks. We’re proud to be part of the Halcyon family, both as an alumni and a partner!

Is Ceemo led by an underrepresented founder?

Yes, proudly so! Our founder, Heather Lawver, is a female, LGBTQ+, and disabled founder. You can learn more about her and the rest of our team on the About page.

What if I have more questions?

Then please feel free to reach out to us here, any time! We’re always happy to help.

Thank you! Hope to hear from you soon! Buh-bye for now!
